Last week I was listening to a sermon and the preacher (who I respect greatly) said, “the average church member in America attends church 1.7 weeks per month.”
At first, I was shocked but then I started to do more research. Regardless of whether you believe the quoted stat the trends do show a definite lack of commitment towards attending church. Why? That’s a good question and here is what surveys are saying…
[Side note: You know, I hear so many people moaning about what kind of world we are going to leave our children but to be honest I am more concerned about what kind of children we are going to leave our world. If we are not careful we are teaching our children that we have a "take it or leave it" faith, and if they don't see an inspired commitment to Christ and His Church from us, they will most likely leave it one day when they leave home.] I say this because this is serious business...
Okay, enough of the downer talk... let's work on being positive. I couldn't agree more, so before I sign off this post, I would like to highlight some reasons for why going to church should be a priority for people of faith.
Listen, I believe the local church is still God's plan for leading people into a life changing relationship with Him. And to be frank, it is time for believers to invest in the ministry of the local church and make it a priority once again. Our lethargic commitment only makes our ministries more lethargic and provides more fodder for the enemy to use to discourage people from seeking God. Let's step it up in 2018! Let's be inspired by God's grace in our lives and invest in the ministry of the local church show some love to the Bride of Christ!
I am so excited about 2018! God is so good and we are going to experience some incredible blessings as we press on in our commitment to Him!
P.S.- In the comment box below share some other reasons for why you feel church attendance is important!
